'Opening the Cabinets'

'Opening the Cabinets' consists of groupings of sterling silver 'scroll shaped' trinkets, paired with distressed silver wire. With a dappled hammered finish, some of the components are also oxidised to emphasise their flowing curved contrasts. The collection still has a warm hand made feeling, while being bolder than some of the other ranges. Its beginnings lie in the curiosity cabinets of the Victorian era, where the products of ‘divine’ and human craft lived side by side as objects of amazement. Sample images below. 'When in the woods...' incorporates jewellery designs evolved from the extremely popular ‘Naturalia collection’.

Intricately hand cut sterling silver silhouettes are still the focus. ‘Memory as muse’ rings true in these new romantic pieces. Remember being lost in the delicately stitched pattern of an old lace handkerchief, or smiling quietly at the amazing beauty of nature’s fretwork of bare branches against an evening sky?

Naturalia Collection

There are three ranges within this collection: 'Blossom', 'Floral' and 'Lace'. The pieces are all inspired by reflecting on things, people, moments that belong to the past. Memory as muse. The collection uses components that are meticulously hand cut from sterling silver and given a brushed finish. This finish gives the silver a soft whiteness, that in turn works beautifully with the dark beads, ribbons and leather fused together in the three ranges. *Collection specifications - Sterling silver, leather, satin ribbon, black obsidian, clear quartz.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Debora De Stefanis is a Melbourne designer and metalsmith creating unique designs. Her admiration and fascination with the intricate, fragile patterns found in nature drive most of her creations. She adorns the body with concepts adapted to be showcased on the human form.Debora has completed her Master of Fine Arts majoring in metals and jewellery at Monash University, and received a study grant from the Australian Council of the Arts to attend an intensive workshop at a contemporary jewellery school in Florence, Italy. She has also been involved with jewellery retail for over ten years. With all this experience there comes an insight into jewellery from a design and production perspective, and an understanding of both customer and retailer expectations.
